Update 2

There are just so many things that don't come fast enough, but then you realise that the longer you have to wait for something, the more you will appreciate it. I've had to come to the exact same realisation with the birth of my baby, Zoey Esmée Ray. The days now seem to almost drag on if I'm not doing much other than staying at home and doing housework or watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians (which is practically the only tv show I actually watch these days!). The wait isn't too much longer; really I only have about 3 weeks left but I could have her any day now seeing as she is fully developed and growing healthily. The only things left to worry about now is another GTT (Glucose Tolerance Test) which is frustrating because I thought I only had to do that once and it is literally a two hour wait after you have one blood test and consume a glucose drink, then you're given another blood test and the wait is honestly the last thing I want to do, again especially. Plus I have a few more visits with my midwife but that's not very stressful really, and one more blood test for some random reason. The last growth scan we went to a few days ago on Friday and according to my midwife, Zoey is growing very well which is definitely what I wanted to hear - I was hoping to hear that she wouldn't be too big of a baby but she's definitely the average size so that's good to know.

Antenatal classes have finally finished for me and we were rewarded with so many nice gifts for the baby, ourselves and some even for our partners. It was honestly really lovely to sit down with so many girls around my age who were also pregnant with their own babies and I was the only one who was having a girl apparently! The food was great (of course), the information was great and the all around service was great especially the fact that the organisation had taxi's pick us up free of charge which was awesome - despite the half an hour waits in the rain!

Overall I'm feeling so excited in terms of Zoey coming - I know it still could be a little bit of a wait and I'll probably get so massively impatient my brains will explode, but when you're waiting to see the face of someone who you know will change your life forever, you're  obviously gonna go a little crazy waiting for that special moment. My friend just recently had her baby and she was having contractions for almost a week straight! I'm so proud of her though for sticking through it with such a tough attitude - I was messaging her throughout the week while she was going through all this pain and I don't know how she did it but she got through it. I hope that when it comes to the time when Zoey wants to finally come out and meet us that I'll have the same determination and strength as my friend.

We have practically everything we need for Zoey thanks to most of our family helping us out. I'm so grateful that Chad and his mate were able to make a cot for her which is so awesome and has been painted two of my favourite colours too - purple and black. He also managed to make a steel cut-out of her name at his work which is also so amazing. I couldn't ever make anything as cool as that for her but I'll definitely try one day!

Thanks for reading my latest update. Please keep an eye out for more posts from me on the pregnancy and the birth!

Update 1

There's almost no way to describe a baby kicking from the inside without having to bring up a creepy alien movie! Fortunately it is not as freaky as that, in fact you eventually get used to the weird feeling and realise (like I eventually did!) that it is the most wonderful and unique feeling in the world which only a few woman will feel up to so many times in her life depending on how many kids she has. For me it reminds me that my little one is there, well and healthy - also to remind me that with how strong she is, she is bound to kick my ass in karate one day!
Zoey at 26 weeks

My name is Ella Fleming-Christie and my little 32 week bump will be called Zoey Esmée. She will be of South African, NZ Maori, NZ European descent and I know she will be the most beautiful girl that I will have ever seen. I found out that I was pregnant when I was 17 years and 9 months, and at that time I was around 6 weeks pregnant already. To some at that age it may have been a massive shock due to having no job and being so young, but I can honestly say that I was pretty happy when I found out because my partner is so supportive and loving and I know he's the one I want to be with for the rest of my life. Funny enough he was the one who first had the feeling I was definitely pregnant but said I should take a test just to be sure. But everything has been so much more defined since we found out; I am more sure of what I want to do and how my life will hopefully turn out. At least now I have more of a direction because we'll have a daughter to focus more of our time around. I've even planned out that I want to start her in karate and horse riding around the age of two or three if she's active enough but I have no doubts, I was pretty on to everything by the age of two.

Knowing Zoey is on her way very soon I couldn't be more excited, let alone impatient! Being a young mum is probably not much different from being an older mum apart from the fact that you will have way more energy to keep up with them during their toddler years! It's weird though because sometimes I feel like I'm older in the way that I already know most of how to look after, bring up and discipline a kid - probably mostly due to the fact that my own mum has been working in Early Childcare Education since she was sixteen and I've grown up watching her look after other children and I've helped her especially with my own brother and sister, plus the kids that she nannied throughout my childhood.

I went to my first antenatal class today after so many weeks of putting it off. Thanks to my midwife, Kathy Fray and my mum telling me how beneficial it is, I thought I might just go anyway and see for myself what it's really like. Turns out it wasn't so bad! It was a young mum's group so there were girls there around my age, seventeen to twenty which was great because I had them there to relate to and discuss different experiences between us all. We did a small activity to start off with and then we had some lunch which lead to us talking more and more which meant we were slowly all getting more confident to one another. I found myself contributing to most of the conversations which was strange because usually in new situations and speaking up for myself, I usually don't do because I'm quite shy at times. But due to having such a comfortable atmosphere I was able to be myself and have a laugh with the girls and enjoy my day there!

I hope you all have enjoyed my first young mum pregnancy update! Keep an eye out for more posts from me!

Have a great day guys,

Ella Fleming-Christie
